Those mess kits are usually dirty as fuck and usually have dirt and sand on the bottom and look how the guy is serving the goulash, all their shit is hovering over the food and the dude is banging the spoon on the soldiers private mess kit. Every person has to wash their own shit and some people just dont wash their shit properly and when you are in combat or training you carry your mess kits around and when there are large numbers of people, you sit your ass down on the ground or set your kits down on the ground, getting dirt on the bottom, then pounding a massive serving spoon on it while its over the rest of the food, gets dirt in your food.
