Police officer's are in a brotherhood. That take the oath to protect fellow officer's. Any one who doesnt wont get backup when they need it as payback and get hurt or killed. Now PD are being filled by Nazi and racist Auto types.

American cops seem so quick to use intimidation tactics.

This was a good experiment. It highlights some fundamental problems within the US police.

i'm usually pretty skeptical but these guys are pretty clearly very afraid they're about to get busted for something. they're not curious about what people want to complain about, they're defensive about it from the start as though they know what it's about.

this really is disturbing. if any of you heard a complaint from someone about someone else you were working with, would you look into it and take it higher? i certainly would, and my job isn't nearly as important to the public as the police.

btw why do you have so many different police departments? it;s no wonder it's a mess. here there's a department in each state and it's one organisation that does every city and area in that state. there's less buddy-ism because people in one station don't know the people in another, but can investigate a complaint about them, so they're not investigating friends.

I am assuming when you say "here" are you talking about Canada?

You want to know why there are many different departments.  The simple reason is oversight.  The closer a law enforcement agency is to the people they are suppose to serve, the easier it is to effect change if that agency is being run like shit.

Take Police Departments.  They are chartered by Cities upon petitioning the State.  Police Departments have a Chief of Police who reports to and can be fired by the elected City Mayor.  It is for that reason that I commented in a previous video about this, that the anyone who has a complaint about the Police Department should file it with the Mayor's Office.

Now move up a level and you will find, in all but the smallest States, a County Sheriff's Office.  The Sheriff's Office is mandated by the State Constitution.  The Sheriff is responsible for the housing prisoners of the County and guarding the Courts.  Historically speaking, that was all the Sheriff did.  Law enforcement was done by elected Constables who were responsible for the district in which they happened to live.  Eventually the Sheriff was tasked with law enforcement in addition to his historical duties.

Now move up a level and you will find State Police a.k.a. State Troopers a.k.a. Highway Patrol.  Though they focus mainly on traffic enforcement, they also aid the local agencies within their territory.  In my State they also provide security for the Governor.

But going back to your question, the reasoning goes back to the founding of our Nation.  Centralized power cannot be trusted and ought to be limited and/or avoided when possible.  It's why our current Federal Government is so fucked now.  People who think like you just keep on handing more and more power to a central authority when the issues they have can be addressed on a State and Local level.

thanks for the detailed response.

still a little confused, because the reason we have only one department is oversight. there's a set of standards that no police station or office can go below, or they get in trouble. in this case, if you went to a police station and they wouldn't give you a form, you can go to another who would, and someone there would be outraged that these other officers (who they've probably never met) aren't meeting standards and there'd be an investigation.

further confused regarding the "founding of the nation" reason, because i'm talking about state police being the highest, not national/federal. who has the power to get your departments in line when they start refusing to take complaints? do you have a state police commissioner or equivalent? with so many departments seemingly having no oversight or control over them it's no surprise to me that they've ended up just doing what they want.

The reason we have some many is because of oversight & accountability.  The more local the department the closer it is to the people it serves.  If a City cop does wrong, the Chief and Major are very close at hand.  If a State cop does wrong, chances are you live hundreds of miles from his boss.

Every town has different problems and different needs.  That is better addressed by local administrators than some far off nobody who could really give a rats ass about your town so long as his people are meeting their ticket quotas.

I love the Police in the US. They actually work. You can accuse them of corruption, but I asure you, you have not seen what it looks like in the rest of the world.
