Life in Germany after the War

this is fantastic, shows so very clearly the distinction between civilized people and barbarians. peaceful society is built on civility - the ability to empathize with your enemy. look at any shithole or "struggling" country in the world right now and you'll see people within trying to kill 'the others' in eternal revenge.

Where did the downvotes come from?

Someone has German guilt.

It is a good  thing  that at least one is free from guilt!

I think some of the downvotes may come from the mistaken belief that if the communist block had only won the gang fighting in the streets of the Weimar Republic the German crimes, failures and humiliations of WWII would never have happened. If so, this is delusional. There would have been an entirely different set of crimes against humanity similar to what we saw in Stalin's Russion but with a distinctly German character.

The Weimar Republic ended in 1933 and the greatest complaint was the terms of the Versailles treaty which crippled the german economy with punative reparations to the French, and as usual the Jews were blamed.
