LOL, with their pathetic "spontaneous" tunnel adventure ("Oh, look it fits, what a surprise") they just proved how idiotic the concept of leaving the tunnel using a lift actually is, making the whole concept rather flawed.

I'd by a truck if it were a Hilux size and comparably prized and adaptable to my needs, without the bullet proof gimmicks, though.

how did they prove how idiotic it is to leave a tunnel via lift?

always made a lot of sense to me, they're much cheaper and use less than 5% of the space an upramp does. would love to have one under my area so all those cars aren't on the roads around my house anymore. they don't need to come to my neighborhood my there's no way to get where they do need to be without driving through it.

Tesla markets the tunnels as a fast lane into the city. The fast lane stops where the lift  starts (or the off ramp into clogged up traffic) and the whole tunnel in turn clogs up, even if some sort of paternoster or a buffer system is used. So plenty vehicles stuck in a tiny space. They would have to create a whole new enormous parking infrastructure to make this work (which again would be a very restricting bottleneck speedwise) so people would still be somewhere in the city but not exactly where they want to be, just like with public transport.

I also look forward to the leaked panic videos from these tunnels.

And I especially look forward to the excuses when hyperloop and this tunnel crap are cancelled.....

I don't think you understand the tunneling system. it is for electric only. Some will have lifts, some won't. cybertruck is the biggest electric commercial vehicle to date (semi's will have their own tunnels as they are doing much longer commutes.

Autopilot is going to be a very key part in the tunnel navigation. Time will tell if it is going to be implemented well, and used properly. But hey, he landed a rocket in the ocean on a barge. So, I think if anyone can do this right now, it is probably Elon.

I don't think you understand that you can't move any vehicle into standing traffic, regardless of lift or off ramp, even with relatively few vehicles this will clog up in no time during rush hour.

Oh, zouse tsherrmanns:

Click on "Autobahn - " at the top and reduce to 1 lane, then maximise turn off (50%) and you can see how this pans out for following cars.   The faster the motorway speed the quicker it clogs up. I haven't checked how to reduce "off ramp" speed because I think in the tunnel it will be significantly lower than average motorway exits.
