Here in Spain we have to contract the maximum load desired, I for example have 6kW in a house with pool, hvac, electric cooker and oven.
Now they changed the system to what seems to be appropriate for the area: We can install solar without batteries and feed into the grid. This means whatever electricity isused during the day is provided by the panels, excess is fed into the gird and discounted from what is used at night. So, depending on size of installation, there will be days without paying any electricity at all.
We can select a tariff where electricity is more expensive during daytime hours and cheaper at night so the expected saving is about 800-1000€ per year for a 4kW installation, which will be paid for in less than 10 years.
