he has a good point but explains it very poorly. think what he's getting at is that movie criticism is a discussion of what constitutes a movie and if a given movie has succeeded or not in reaching those goals, whereas the themes shown in a movie are more of a discussion about society and have nothing to do with whether a movie was well constructed or not.
