it may be true but as far i ive read the russians were just as careful, if not more careful, as the americans in making sure their people came backk alive...its said that the russians could have beaten the americans to the moon but they were taking the time to be sure they could bring them home..

Russians had trouble even getting off the launch pad with their moon rocket. I think they had about 4-5 launches that all blew up and then they gave up.
