NYTmes paints a picture of derelect/conspiratorial cops because the 2 cops who were on the scene & completely outnumbered & without any riot gear left the MTR to get backup.
The cops in the area were all in different locations dealing with other unrest & arrived at the MTR within 35 mins. They made about 8 arrests of white shirts the following day.
The black shirts had gone there at 10:30 at night specifically to make trouble for that suburb, which has a clan culture where people protect the village (not the same as triads), the trouble had started a week earlier when the black shirts had vandalised things, got into confrontations with locals & graffitied the area threatening a future attack.
White shirts were protecting their village against these HK Antifa/cultural revolution black shirts. Rumour has it that the most violent of the black shirts are being paid by Taiwanese as 'snake heads' to lead the violence. There are around 30 'snake heads'.
No doubt there is a struggle for autonomy going on in HK but the Western media has been completely biased by only showing what the cops do, never what the black shirts do.
Last night the black shirts hog tied & beat up 2 people at the airport on suspicion of being spies simply because they speak Mandarin (dialiect spoken in mainland China).
It's a neoliberal cultural revolution with foreign state actors & corrupt HK tycoons stirring it up. Kimmy Lai who owns Next Media is one of the trouble makers & he's been kicked out of his clan for being a Western puppet. It is not the fight for 'freedom/democracy' presented in Western press although many of the revolutionaries believe it is. Everything they've done since the initial (mostly) peaceful protest has sent HK backwards in terms of civil rights & autonomy.
