or just use more than 1 door? all planes have at least 8 but we insist on using only 1 to board.

They use generally 2 entrances when boarding from an off terminal position. Ryanair actually preferes these as they are cheaper and offer a quicker turnaround as part of the waiting time is spent in the bus. Some airports have multiple "fingers" for entering but they are expensive.

yes the single entrance is cheaper for the airport to build and operate, and it also keeps planes there longer which is more money for them. double incentive to keep passengers waiting longer.

The best method is to let families with small children/babies wait until the end of the boarding and let them enter by row. Usually they enter first and thus hold up the boarding twice:

  1. on entering the plane when folding their stroller(s)
  2. when "negotiating" their seats

They also tend to cluster together with the least mobile sitting in the worst places

It is unfortunate airline "family friendly" policy to let families board first.

The disabled are usally the very first to board, however often they don't effect boarding time as such as they are let in before the "normal guests" are allowed in, just after or even during refuelling.

Just get in the back of the line, it minimizes how long you're queueing & sitting in the plane.

feel the same way about getting off. people stand up immediately only to have to stand there holding their bags for 15 minutes until they actually get to move forward. last time i flew there was even this stupid bitch who shoved her way from row 50 to about row 30 before not being able to go any further.
