I realize you weren't explicitly speaking to me (I gave the debate post 1 star as well) but as sal says I'll take my shit here. I usually skip over these vids and don't rate them because I find watching them about as interesting as watching paint dry. That's why it's good to have a diversity of videos on the site for a diversity of tastes. You can scroll down the front page and see that in action. I don't typically concern myself with sal's vids because most of them don't interest me. I rate the ones that do, and ignore the ones that don't. Lately, due to the lack of vids hitting the front page I've been forcing myself to watch more of sal's content and vote on it, which is what prompted the comment that set off this dullpocalypse. I've typically been giving these 3/5 - I would like to see more hitting the front page.

There are like 100 times more people who casually view the site than are members. Sal does a great job of posting vids that a wide breadth of people find interesting to this site. As long as sal is here, so will be the videos you love. It's the need to downrate and bitch about the videos you wish you could scrub off the site, rather than simply ignoring them, or giving them a try and maybe commenting on them, that makes no sense to me. If you aren't interested in a video, why not just ignore it? I hope sal continues to post videos that I mostly find dull for years to come. Sometimes there's something I find cool, as our tastes overlap a bit. I'm not going to go around shit-rating his posts and declaring that they shouldn't be on the site. I should probably force myself to watch more of them and rate them more often. It's just that sal gets really hostile about what I post here so it's hard to work with him. I think the PBS science guy has a dull walrus  face with a dull voice and a conservatively dull view of the space-time continuum. I also find a video about sanding floors a bit dull - I don't even have light switch covers for my light switches.

Sal has been breathing down my neck for many months, alternating between implicit and explicit personal animosity, and I don't think he has a good explanation for it. I ignore him, but he still prods and prods, and then when I finally respond with a troll it's tantrum time. The guy talks about how he's going to "take a shit" here and there, within the context of him believing the fact that I post short videos from my personal life makes me a gullible mark that offers him a prime opportunity for resentful trolls and vicious insults regarding whatever or whoever he can see in the vid. Sal goes out of his way to make my experience here unfriendly and inhospitable. I'm content to largely ignore Sal for the most part as long as he feels the need to be hostile towards me. When I see a string of posts on the site from sal and eh and myself and others I'm happy all of them are there. I go through them - each one holding such potential - and watch the ones that look interesting. It's great, it's what the site's about - what's the fucking problem?

Why does this have to be an implied contest of posting between members? Most of what I post gets good reviews - the vast majority, even with haters a hatin', including the social issues and "crackpot political" stuff, which I take it includes posts from alternative media. Same for sal - most of what he posts gets good reviews - but there are about 30 members here but only 10 or so regular voters.

I think more participation and less implicit and explicit hostility regarding what you wish wasn't on the site getting good ratings would help the site. I don't worry when I see some post I'm not interested in about replacing a wooden floor getting great reviews and a lot of interest. It doesn't bother me - why does stuff that doesn't interest you, but which others enjoy, bother you?

LOL Look I'm sorry the government picked the week before Christmas to acknowledge that UFOs are real, and I didn't realize hypnosis was such a touchy subject - I'm half-joking but I'm not going to get super ratings for posting about UFOs here I understand (last week was special). It also was not my intent to say that I wish content like sal's wasn't here. I meant what I said - I usually don't find it that interesting. There are 5-10 videos with great ratings and 8-10 votes on the new posts page right now going back to late November. Posts by everyone stalled at the cusp - from sal, myself, eh, etc. Why don't we work to get some of that content onto the front page for the 2000 or so casual visitors of Spiked? Is there really a completely split audience of regular voting members?

I've slightly loosened my criteria on voting anything below a 3.  If it's something I just don't care about at all I give it a 3, which includes some of Sal's stuff.  I will vote shit a 1/5 or a 2/5 if it is not entertaining nor informative with a secondary criteria of "is this intentionally trying to mislead viewers".  But even with some political shit I don't like I still give a 3/5 if it's at least sane.

Although it would probably kill the site dead, we really should require that to comment upon a video you must first vote upon it.  I've seen comment threads with 5+ people in it and only 2 votes on the video and that really hurts us because so much shit doesn't hit the front page.

Agree with everything you said here. I too have been dropping 3/5 for things, sometimes without watching, just because I want more content for the kids to be visible to them on the front page.

Damn son. TLDR.....   Get to your point in like 200 words or less.  Your posts are fine, its like 50/50 on stuff that I personally find interesting.

In the past however it has felt like a solid 80% of what was posted (not you) were vblogs of really uninteresing people attempting to make sense of something waaay out of their depth.

Skeptoid, Post whatever you like. You have the freedom to do so.  Just as I have the freedom to tell the poster of this that I much perfer interesing posts such as this, as opposed to what I mentioned previously.

Now beyond that, your business with this  Sal character or whoever... Bruh, I dont even know what happend, why, or even who each of you are, but dont let it get to you. Its literally just someone on the internet. The fact you were willing to write that novel up there about him is about 1000x more effort than I would have EVER given to someone I dont know, care about, or will ever meet in real life.  I hate to give out 2nd grade *TopTips*, but ignore him and you'll both be better off.
