User Submitted Articles [Update AND EDITED] Aug 18th
Hey Everybody,
Just a small update.
There's a whole bunch of interesting links in the user articles section, but nobody seems to be reading or, more importantly, voting on them. I've reduced the number of votes needed for promotion to 3 to encourage some content on the User Articles front page.
[EDIT]
I forgot to mention; the same controls for video posts (Past week, post month etc) all work with the User Article section. So if you get bored feel free to go through and read some from the past month or so.
Many thanks to those who made a contribution so far.
That is all, carry on.
EDIT: Hi Everybody! You can now submit your own articles! Look in your account block, "Create Content" -> "User Articles". Tagging rules, voting and commenting are the same as they are for videos. The nav bar works for these articles as well. When you first click on the link, you will see a blank page. This is normal (we obviously don't have any Top Rated articles yet). Click on "User Articles" then "Recently Added" to see them. I expect some bugs to crop up, let us know if they do :) Enjoy! (30 votes)

yep
The problem i find is that poeple will just post a link to the article thats on another website instead of posting the information on Spikednation.
Oh, it is too!
Sorry, it's just the last time I clicked that section it was all completely blank.
I think they would do better if they were like on SH where it was to the right on the home page and people can see them at a glance.
Agreed. At the present time, I am not well triggered to read them. By having the latest or most popular daily articles posted on the right hand side of the videos like on the old spiked, I will be alerted to new content and be drawn in to reading them.
can we get a spam button for them as well?
Why yes, yes you can. I'll make it soon.
Yep, it's discouraging to scroll past 3 ads for shoes and about 8 or something for erectile disfunction.
Spam flag completed
Banned the spammers as well. I think I'll look into letting only established members post stuff, any thoughts?
Wouldn't it be better if you put the user articles on the front page of the website? I mean just put them on the side in one of those boxes under the news and people will read them.
You can adjust this yourself. My account - edit - tick the box that says: news_view: Block
I agree with Thorkon, on the right would be better.
that's for site admin posted news. We're talking about user submitted posts here.
just so you know, i didnt really envision this to be a purely news related thing, tho if the users want it like that then that's fine. What I had in mind was a section on this site where users could share cool/interesting things that weren't videos, for example a webcomic you read. This is also why the default body text is about a forgotten description, rather than a forgotten news story.
Incidentally, would you guys want a user activated block on the left for these articles?
Sorry, I think this shows how much of the submitted articles I read.
What happened to the raging Pat Condell raging blog?
Appreciate the work as always
Nice work, but the whole thing comes across as random listing instead of listing the posts by date submitted.
The "random listing" is actually how it's supposed to work.
It's set to the same pattern as the videos. So when you first see the User Articles it shows you the top rated articles.
Click on Recently Added, and it will show the articles people have submitted recently. The date range of both of these can be controlled by using the Today, Past Week, etc etc tabs.
Most Commented and Most Viewed don't work yet, not sure if we need them for the articles.
I think it's a shame that no one's really commenting on the user submitted articles. I think they would have to be a bit more visible for that to start to happen.
The (Past week, post month etc) seems to break once in a while... *shrug*
When I click on "user articles" then "recently added" it takes me to the recently added videos section.
Edit: same thing when I click on "past week" etc.
Fixed, thanks for letting us know :)
Most recent video uploaded from Videojug dosent seem to have a thumbnail? first time i think ive done a videojug one and it includes boobs so it would be a shame for folk to miss out on useful information...
"Breast Cancer Awareness - How it should be done.." is the title (posted 12 oct 2011)
