Update News and Tagging Guide
Good news everybody!
Voting on comments no longer freeze the page.
Also there seems to be some confusion about how some of the features on this site work, so I thought I'd take some time dispel some myths and set the record straight.
- Comments on the Week are still here, they’re just on the left hand side in your User Account Navigation Box.
- You do not get points for voting on comments.
- You do get points for voting on videos and other content.
- Videos with 15 votes AND a rating of 3 stars and above get promoted to the front page, with the exception of Admin Promoted videos. Admin Promoted videos will be marked in some way as yet undecided.
- Promoted videos with 25 votes and a rating of less than 3 will get removed. This does not work for videos whose average became less than 3 after 25 votes. These will be removed manually.
[Disclaimer: This is still a bit buggy, let us know if you catch any vids with 25 votes and less than 3 stars] - The filter bar above is designed to work with the two sets of options provided. For example you may choose Top Rated for this week, month etc etc. Similarly you can select Most Viewed videos for the past month, year, etc etc.
You will find videos that are weeks old in Most Commented, Today because that video received the most comments today. - “Categories” function has been removed, as we believe the tagging system is much more flexible and allows you to specifically mark the content you upload.
Speaking of tagging, many of you have not been using the tagging system properly, so please from now on, follow this guide:
You have uploaded a video about The Fuzzy Bunnies, a documentary on bunny rabbits featuring Sir David Attenborough.
DO:
- Use keywords
- Use commas to separate keywords, not spaces. Spaces do not count.
- Try to capitalise each word (we’ll be changing those already accepted with lower casing, so don’t feel bad if the system doesn’t let you).
- Use alternate or related keywords, especially keywords that relate to the content of the video. For example if the documentary was about rabbits eating carrots, then please add “Carrots” to the tag.
AVOID:
- Using words with three letters or less eg. “to”, “be”, “at”.
- Using special characters eg. ! = + \ < ?
Incorrect Tagging:
“THE fuzzy BUNNies a documentary on bunny rabbits SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH”
“The, fuzzy, bunnies, a, documentary, on, bunny, rabbits, David, Attenborough”
“THE, fuzzy bunnies, a, documentary, document, bunny, on, rabbits, rabbit, rabs, Attenborough, David”
Correct Tagging:
“Fuzzy, Bunnies, Documentary, Rabbits, David Attenborough, Carrots”
Following this guide will enable the Related Content to work properly.
I hope this answers some of your questions, if you have any more, please feel free to comment underneath and I, or one of the Devs, will try to get back to you (or post another announcement like this).

is anyone else having problems with checking to search if a video has been uploaded prior to you uploading yourself? every time i've tried to the last dozen times or so, i can't. it won't come up for me. :-/
kind of hoping my shit is obscure enough to not be a repost, at this point...
thanks! :)
I was wondering if people on here were just getting smarter or if someone finally taught them the effective way to tag videos...it appears it was the latter.
Thanks..Im not new to the site (spikedhumor was a favorite for years,I was quite quiet there aswell)
I thought id start posting and commenting,Sharing my views and opinions..I hear alot of this >
"Best part is the comments"
And i Agree..
I dont know if this is the propper place for it but if you dont mind awansering something im confused about,I'd be greatful.
Yes I have mental problems I wont go into so lets just say make the awanser "for dummies" Please.. >
My question is "How do I post a pic or gif with out fail..Post these as responces Instead of text??"I really like to know what im doing before I attempt it (rescearcher bug I cought).
p.s. I will apply what Ive read here.. Thanks for the info.
Intently noted*
There are two different ways to I post an image or a GIF. They are as follows:
The easiest way is to simply right click on the image/GIF you want and choose "copy image". Then come into the comment box here and either hold down control and hit "V" or right click inside the comment box and click paste.
The other way to do it is to right click on the image/GIF and choose "copy image URL". You can also find this information by finding the source site where the image comes from. For example, let's use http://www.boingboing.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/vwGWK.jpeg
You then click the "disable rich-text" link at the bottom of the comment box here on SpikedNation.com and then type the following:
<img src="http://www.boingboing.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/vwGWK.jpeg"> which gives you this:
Doing it in this fashion you can then change the sizing of the image. For example, if we wanted this image to be smaller we could type this:
<img src="http://www.boingboing.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/vwGWK.jpeg" width="300">
and get this:
That was helpful..Im greatful thank you.
I was rescearching this a bit while awaiting responce here and read something about the bandwidth from the site used to host the pic\gif in question..I dont think its an issue otherwise you would have mentioned it,Im sure you know what im talking about.
And this is about how I feel now I can move on..lol
